Self-Portrait at San Luca by Giuseppe Cassioli

Ingrandisci a tutto schermo

In this small self-portrait from 1922, Giuseppe Cassioli depicts himself within the worksite of the San Luca sanctuary in Bologna, where he was engaged in decorating the dome—a commission that was perhaps his most significant, secured through a competition in 1918. Next to the self-portrait, a large sketch of the decoration, also dated 1922, is displayed. This piece draws inspiration from the 18th-century style of Tiepolo, featuring a choice of bright, luminous colors and an airy composition.
