The Stigmata of St. Francis

Zoom in to full screen

The fresco, originally from a room in the palace not included in the museum route, was recently restored and mounted on a fiberglass panel. It depicts the famous scene of St. Francis' Stigmata, with Christ crucified with seraphic wings, Brother Leo, and two little bears. The work is attributed to the painters Cristoforo di Bindoccio and Meo di Pero, active in the second half of the 14th century. Beneath the fresco, there are flowers that resemble similar decorations in the museum, but it is uncertain whether they were created by the two artists or if they are contemporary to the scene.
