Room 18 - Archaeology Section
This room inaugurates the Archaeology Section of the museum, dedicated to the history of the Upper Ombrone Valley, well illustrated by the model representing its territory. Welcoming you is an elegant red-figure krater found in the Poggio Pinci necropolis, a work of the so-called "Painter of Asciano."
The items on display, from five archaeological sites, tell the story of the settlement dynamics of the area during the Etruscan and Roman periods. A small display case contains finds discovered during the museum's restoration, possibly related to a Roman villa, part of which is represented by a splendid mosaic preserved on Via del Canto.
